About Me
Rhiannon Piper is a paintings conservator with experience in the treatment of traditional and modern paintings, as well as frames and three-dimensional decorative objects. Her practice is grounded in detailed technical examination and careful ethical decision-making, with a focus on stabilisation and the long-term preservation of each work’s material and cultural value.
She is trained in easel painting conservation, with additional training in conservation science that informs her understanding of materials, deterioration processes, and appropriate treatment strategies. This scientific foundation supports a considered approach to treatment and preventive care, particularly where long-term stability is a primary concern.
Her experience across paintings, frames, and associated objects allows her to approach complex works as integrated material and historical systems rather than isolated components. This cross-disciplinary perspective informs both her structural and aesthetic decisions, particularly where paintings and their original or historic frames form a single interpretive unit.
Her approach is characterised by close observation, restrained intervention, and a commitment to transparency in documentation and decision-making. Treatments are guided by established professional standards, with priority given to minimal intervention, material compatibility, and long-term responsibility to future interpretation.
Alongside her conservation practice, she maintains an independent art practice. This informs her sensitivity to materials, surface, and process, while remaining distinct from her conservation work.
She is currently based in the UK and undertakes conservation treatment, documentation, and preventive conservation advice for private owners and custodians of paintings and related objects.
‘‘I am here to help ensure that each object is treated with care and precision. My practice is grounded in close technical examination and ethical judgement, with a focus on decisions that support long-term stability and future understanding. I treat conservation as a craft, and each object as a commitment to its continued history.’’
